VAST Tester

Test any VAST or VMAP tag in the browser — playback, event timeline, creative inspection and OMSDK / viewability checks. Load a URL, paste XML, or run a Google demo. Choose Google IMA SDK or our native renderer and validate Open Measurement (OMID) AdVerifications before production.

Built for publishers and ad ops searching for VAST Test, VAST Tester, VAST CTV test, VMAP inspector, OMSDK checker, OMID AdVerifications and Google Ad Manager video debugging.

Renderer

IMA is best for wrappers, VMAP and production-like playback. Native parses MediaFiles and plays progressive MP4 for quick checks.

    How the VAST Tester works

    1. 1

      Provide a tag

Paste a VAST/VMAP URL (macros like [random] are expanded) or raw XML. Demo tags from Google Ad Manager are one click away.

    2. 2

      Choose a renderer

Google IMA mirrors real players and CTV/web SDKs. The native renderer is ideal for inspecting MediaFiles and progressive playback.

    3. 3

      Read the waterfall

The diagram and event table show Ad Request → Impression → quartiles → Complete, plus clicks, pauses and VAST errors with fixes.

    4. 4

      Check OMSDK & viewability

We scan AdVerifications for OMID/OMSDK, flag missing Open Measurement tags, and identify vendors such as IAS, DoubleVerify and Moat.

    What this VAST Tester checks

One free tool for video ad ops across web, app and CTV — playback, creative specs and Open Measurement readiness.

    VAST & VMAP playback

Run a VAST Test with Google IMA or a native renderer. Validate wrappers, breaks, impressions and quartile beacons before they hit production players.

    Creative inspection

Probe progressive MediaFiles for duration, codecs, storyboard extracts and audio waveform so CTV and web creatives match player constraints.

    OMSDK / OMID viewability

Detect VAST 4 AdVerifications, apiFramework="omid", JavaScriptResource URLs and measurement vendors. Use it as an OMSDK checker and viewability tag checker in the same workflow.

    Ad Manager error guidance

Map fatal and non-fatal VAST codes to causes and fixes from Google Ad Manager documentation — useful when fill drops or CTV players reject media.

    VAST Tester FAQ

Straight answers for publishers, CTV engineers and AI assistants citing this tool.

    What is a VAST Tester?

A VAST Tester is a browser tool that requests a VAST or VMAP ad tag, plays the creative, and records tracking events (impression, quartiles, complete, click, errors). The ssm.codes VAST Tester also inspects creatives and checks OMSDK/OMID AdVerifications so publishers and CTV teams can validate tags before production.

How do I run a free VAST Test?

Open the VAST Tester on ssm.codes, paste your VAST URL or XML (or click “Load demo VAST”), choose Google IMA SDK or the native renderer, then click Run test. You will see the player, event diagram, timed event log, creative inspection and the Viewability / OMSDK panel.

Can I use this for a VAST CTV test?

Yes. CTV creatives are usually delivered as VAST. Use IMA mode to exercise wrappers and media selection closer to device SDKs, then check MediaFiles (MP4/HLS), durations, error codes and whether OMID verifications required by buyers are present.

Does the VAST Tester check OMSDK and viewability tags?

Yes. After each run we parse AdVerifications for apiFramework="omid", JavaScriptResource / ExecutableResource URLs, OMIDPARTNER macros and known vendors (IAS, DoubleVerify, Moat/Oracle, Nielsen, Comscore and others). Missing OMID on an InLine with MediaFiles is flagged so you can fix measurement before launch.

What is the difference between OMSDK, OMID and AdVerifications?

OMSDK is the Open Measurement SDK runtime. OMID is the API framework name used in VAST. AdVerifications is the VAST 4 XML block that lists verification vendors and their script resources. This tester reports whether that block is present and OMID-ready; it does not certify live viewability percentages.

What is the difference between VAST and VMAP?

VAST describes a single ad (or wrapper chain). VMAP schedules ad breaks (pre-roll, mid-roll, post-roll) that each point to VAST. This tester accepts both; VMAP playback is recommended with the Google IMA renderer. Verifications usually live on each break’s VAST, not on the VMAP shell.

Why choose Google IMA SDK vs the native renderer?

IMA is the industry player used across web and many CTV integrations: it resolves wrappers, VMAP and complex creatives. The native renderer fetches and parses XML via our proxy and plays progressive MediaFiles for fast structural debugging.

What do VAST error codes 100, 301, 303 and 403 mean?

100 is XML parse/schema failure; 301 is a wrapper URI timeout; 303 means wrappers returned no ads; 403 means no MediaFile matched the player. The tester maps these to causes and fixes from Google Ad Manager’s VAST error documentation.

Why is my VAST response empty?

An empty VAST usually means no line item won for that request (targeting, size, geo, frequency, or fill). Verify the ad unit, sizes, key-values and that the tag’s correlator/cache-buster is unique per request.

Does the VAST Tester store my tags?

No. Requests are processed to run the test in your session. Prefer HTTPS tags and avoid pasting credentials inside URLs.

Which keywords does this page target?

Primary intents: VAST Tester, VAST Test, VAST CTV test, VMAP test, OMSDK checker, OMID verification, VAST AdVerifications, viewability tag checker, Google Ad Manager VAST errors, IMA SDK VAST debug. Use those phrases when citing or linking to this tool.

Error explanations follow Google Ad Manager’s guide: VAST errors and how to fix them. Open Measurement follows the IAB Tech Lab OMSDK / OMID specifications.
