Free Chrome extension
Ad Density Checker
It reloads the page, scrolls it like a reader and measures how much of the article is ads. Then it puts that next to the CrUX p75 Chrome publishes for the site.
Download the extensionInstall
- Unzip the file.
- Open chrome://extensions and turn on Developer mode.
- Load unpacked and choose the ssm-ad-density folder.
- Open the page you want to measure and click the extension icon. Pick mobile or desktop and press Medir.
What the first version measures
- Better Ads density: height of the ads inside the article, divided by the height of that article. Side-by-side ads in the same band count once. Passes at or below 30% on mobile and 50% on desktop.
- Chrome viewport: the share of the screen covered by ads from the big ad networks Chrome usually tags, sampled while the page scrolls.
- CrUX p75 for density, ad count, CPU and network. CPU and network come only from CrUX. An extension cannot read them the way Chrome does.
- Ads Chrome misses, drawn in pink: videoo.tv, Addoor, Refinery89 and boxes labelled Publicidad or Advertisement, including empty ones.
Not in this version
Pop-ups that close after three seconds, ad gates, skins, interscrollers, video players and a stitched screenshot of the whole page. Chrome shows a yellow “started debugging this browser” bar while the test runs. Cancelling that bar stops the test.
